—Jiro—
...
Hold still, this'll only take a minute
Gods, you stink!
You've got sores on your shoulders. Is that from the armor?
When was the last time you took that thing off...?

—Polyta—
Jiro?

Polyta stands at the ready, wiping blood off the hardlight sword. Jiro raises his hand and blesses Polyta with Love Power.

—Polyta—
Thank you.

  Major Mercy
...What was that?

—Jiro—
...
Love power. The Blessing of the Goddess.
It's a kind of blessing I can grant to members of my party which enables them to use their Love Techniques for a while. It wears off over time, so I need to reapply it every time a new fight starts.
I don't feel like explaining this again
Don't even worry about it

—Polyta—
It's Jiro's special ability. He grants us incredible power, through the gift of Love.

  Major Mercy
....
Good trick.
Could have used something like that... a little earlier...

—Jiro—
...
Would not have worked on you
At least I hope not. Don't tell me you're attached already.
You're the one who wanted to fight here, we don't have to get involved

  Major Mercy
Ghhh-- how do you not realize?? You're already involved!

—Polyta—
Because they captured us? I'm telling you, we already had a way out...

  Major Mercy
No, you-- the Aveans!
They're the bastards who destroyed our planet!
Our home!
YOUR home!!
It's GONE... how do you not even... it's gone. Our planet, our Earth, it's gone.

—Polyta—
What are you talking about??

—Jiro—
...
What's a planet
Do you mean the island is gone?
That... makes me sad. Yet not nearly as sad as I should be...
Did this all happen in the past day-and-a-half? Something's not right.
I think you have us mistaken for someone else. We're not of this world.

  Major Mercy
Not of...?

—Polyta—
Ah... of course.
We came from a hole in the world, much like the one you saw in the tunnel back there.
We don't live in that labyrinth of blades, but past there. There is an island blessed by the Goddess. That's where we call home.

  Major Mercy
Ah... ah.
Ahh.. ha haahaaaa... of course...
Of course...

Jiro pours the potion onto a folded cloth.

—Jiro—
...
You invested a lot in thinking we were your people, huh
Where you're from... the Aveans burned it down?
Sorry all that happened

  Major Mercy
"Burned it down"... God. As if they're some... bandit gang on horseback.
You have no idea what they did to us.
You couldn't even conceive of it.

Jiro applies the potion to Mercy's wounds.

  Major Mercy
They didn't just burn it to the ground, they burned the ground itself, burned the sea and the sky, ALL of it.
They had a weapon. Power like a vengeful god.
Punched a hole through the Earth like...
...like it was a beer can.

—Jiro—
...
Uh huh. Okay.
You're right. I can't conceive of it.

  Major Mercy
I don't think any of us could.
Not before it happened.

—Polyta—
That sounds terrible, Major. We're sorry you had to go through that.

—Jiro—
...
That sounds like an incredible loss
No wonder you're so screwed up
I know what it's like, for what it's worth

  Major Mercy
You know how it feels to lose everything? I mean everything.
Do you really?

—Jiro—
...
Not what I meant
I know how it feels to have nowhere you can return to.
My home is still standing but it puts a pit in my stomach when I think of going back

—Polyta—
What...? Jiro, what do you mean by that?

  Major Mercy
...
He means what he said, girl.

—Jiro—
...
How do you do it? How do you keep on going?
It doesn't sound like you have anyone to force you back on your feet
If I was you I'd have laid down and never gotten up

  Major Mercy
...
I've considered it. Giving up.
It's the Aveans who keep me going.
Because every time the temptation strikes me, to let go and let it take me...
I just think to myself:

Mercy lets the bile rise up through her.

  Major Mercy
Oh, they would LOVE that.

Mercy steps back. Her wounds are gone, bloodstains and all. Jiro is mulling over her recently expressed philosophy.

  Major Mercy
...Looks like your treatment's worked.

—Polyta—
They're effective, but be warned we have a limited supply.

—Jiro—
...
You're welcome
Try not to get stabbed again

  Major Mercy
No promises.
It's only getting more dangerous from here. We're headed back to the surface.
The easy way is blocked, which means the only way out...
...is through.
